When rock-and-roll heartthrob Conrad Birdie is drafted into the Army, his departure sends teenage fans across the country into a frenzy. Hoping to turn the moment into one last publicity sensation, songwriter Albert Peterson and his secretary, Rosie Alvarez, plan a televised farewell performance featuring one lucky fan and a final kiss from Birdie before he heads off to military service.
Their plan brings Conrad to the small town of Sweet Apple, Ohio, where excitement quickly turns to chaos for teenager Kim MacAfee, her family, and the entire community. Filled with catchy songs, colorful characters, and plenty of comedy, Bye Bye Birdie is a lively musical about celebrity, young love, changing times, and the rock-and-roll craze of the 1950s.
