This October, the Struthers Library Theatre invites you to relive one of the most thrilling broadcasts in history — War of the Worlds, a live radio play! Step back into a 1930s radio studio as talented actors, vintage sound effects, and atmospheric music bring H.G. Wells’ classic alien invasion to life right before your ears. Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Warren County.

On the night of October 30, 1938, millions of Americans tuned their radios to hear what began as ordinary music and news bulletins—only to be swept into sheer panic as War of the Worlds unfolded. Presented by Orson Welles and the Mercury Theatre on the Air, the broadcast used such realistic breaking-news reports that many listeners believed Earth was truly under attack by Martians. Explosions, frantic eyewitness accounts, and chilling updates from the “front lines” painted a picture of chaos and invasion, blurring the line between fact and fiction. What began as a Halloween radio drama quickly became one of the most infamous broadcasts in history—proving the incredible power of storytelling, and the danger of its believability. You will be the live studio audience as 1930s radio players perform the story, complete with music and foley sound effects. This retelling of a radio drama that scared a nation is the perfect way to get into that Halloween spirit! You won’t want to miss this unique theatrical experience. Come see War of the Worlds: A Live Radio Show, October 16-19 at the Struthers Library Theatre. Seating is limited, so call 814-723-7231 for tickets or buy online today!
